Choosing a tech stack is one of the highest-leverage decisions a founding team makes. The right stack accelerates hiring, shortens time-to-market and keeps infrastructure costs predictable; the wrong one quietly taxes every sprint that follows.
Start with constraints, not preferences. How many engineers can you hire locally in this stack? What's your expected traffic curve in 12 months? Do you need offline support, real-time sync, or heavy data processing? These answers eliminate most options before you compare a single framework.
At 8bit we default to boring, proven technology for the core (Node.js/Laravel, PostgreSQL, React) and reserve newer tools for places where they create real leverage — never for résumé-driven development. Boring technology is debugged by thousands of engineers before you ever hit the bug.
Finally, design for replaceability. Modules behind clean interfaces can be rewritten in a better language later; a tangled monolith cannot. Optimize for the team you'll have in two years, not the one you have today.
